Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

As we leave school today at the end of a most amazing year I would like to thank you all for your wonderful support, both personally, and from all of the staff at Langford Village.

Please enjoy your summer break and please rest and be ready for another exciting year ahead. We hope to develop the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) project that we started to plan this year and are looking for some parents to work with us as ambassadors and help to excite the pupils and Teachers.

This morning we had a lovely assembly to say goodbye to three staff who are leaving. The children were so kind and caring with their memories of the staff and also gave them lovely cards from their classes.

I would like to wish Miss Scott good luck in starting her University course in September. I would like to thank Mrs Bray for her service over 20 years at Langford Village and hope she enjoys her retirement.

And finally Miss Stott, for her 4 years leading UKS2 and so wonderfully preparing the Year 6 pupils for their next steps on the educational journey. She thoroughly deserves her new role as Deputy Headteacher, and we all wish her good luck and best wishes.

Crossing Aware

Crossing the roads around school, until we can advertise and employ a patrol crossing person, are becoming very dangerous at the moment as cars are failing to slow down near the school.

Please ensure that your children stay close to you when you cross the roads and are aware of safe places to cross.

Following an incident earlier this week, the police have been informed and a parent involved has been speaking to the local council to help with interim arrangements.

Collection from School

The policy at Langford Village is that children in Years 5 and 6 can make their own way home at the end of the day with permission from a parent who will receive them on arrival but these pupils are not able to take younger siblings home with them. I understand that as yet there is no legal age for children to be home alone, but I also understand that best practice is usually 12+.

Sports News

Years 1 -3 Inter-House Rounders

On Friday 7th July, Years 1 - 3 competed in their houses in a 'Tunnel Rounders' competition. The standard was high and staff and children were fully engaged in the fun and games. The houses - Otter, Deer, Fox and Badger - were split into 2 so that there were 8 teams in total. Mr Holt introduced 'Tunnel Rounders' to the pupils who then enjoyed joining in. 1st place, with an incredible 68 rounders, Otters 1 (Mrs T). All results are available on the website on 'Houses' page.

Years 4 - 6 Inter-House Rounders

On Monday 10th July, children from years 4, 5 and 6 took part in an inter-house rounders competition. Children played a total of 5 games of foot rounders and batting rounders. All games were played in good spirit and results were very close, however, we did have a winner. Well done to children that played in the Fox B team who obtained 10 points. 2nd and 3rd place went to Otter A team and Otter B team, who earned 9 and 7 points respectively. Well done to all children who made the day a success.

Years 1 -3 Sports Day

WOW! What a great morning we have had at Langford! 180 pupils from Years 1 - 3 competed in 8 different track and field events! The MC for the morning, Miss Mac, provided great entertainment and introduced the teams to the adoring crowds. The points system was as follows - children in 1st place were given 3 counters, 2nd were given 2 counters and those in 3rd place were given 1 counter. At the end of the morning, the teams counted the number of counters and the house with the most number of counters won. In addition to winning counters for their race, pupils were also awarded counters for great sportsmanship, support and encouragement. It was also a delight to welcome to the field siblings in our preschool / toddler race - a lovely moment with parents and pupils joining together to support the little ones before the Mums' took to the field for a very competitive Mums' Race. Previous winners lined up and the pressure was on - friendships were set aside and a hushed tone descended. Great performances from all. This was then followed by the Dads' Race - we have never has so many dads taking part. Once again, the tension mounted as the races started. Finally, the teachers race - 3 - legged affair. Miss Fowler paired with Miss Scott, Mr Holt with Mrs Lamburn, Miss Mac with Mr Robinson, Miss Williams with Mandy, Miss Nixon with Mrs McEwan - professionalism was left aside with battle lines drawn. Miss Mac and Mr Robinson were off to a flying start - sadly even though they were victorious they crashed (literally) over the finish line! Results and photographs are available on the school website on 'Houses' page.

Years 4 - 6 Sports Day

Thank you to all parents who helped create a fantastic atmosphere on Sports Day. The afternoon was a huge success, and saw children participate in a range of events, from the water carry and welly wanging, to the hurdles and relay. Children were particularly overjoyed to watch the toddlers' and parents' races, as well as the teacher vs parents relay (The teachers came out on top!). All points were combined and the results were as follow: 1st Fox house; 2nd Deer house; 3rd Otter house; 4th Badger house. A huge congratulations to all who took part and won points for their team!

Sainbury's Vouchers

A grand total of 13,724 vouchers were collected! Thank you to everyone who collected them and brought them in. We are delighted to have used these to improve our provision across the school for PE and outdoor learning.

Swimming lessons

Year 5 will begin swimming lessons on Tuesday 5th September. These will take place a weekly basis for the duration of the Autumn terms. A letter with further information has been e-mailed.

Zone Day

Everyone enjoyed zone day last Tuesday; we were blessed with glorious weather, which meant the water zone was extremely popular with children and teachers alike.

A big thank you to FOLVS for supplying ice-lollies at lunch time, also to Freestyle Martial Arts for running demonstrations throughout the day.

The cake sale held on 30th June, to raise funds for zone day was a huge success, raising over £200, enabling us to purchase/hire equipment for the day.

Thank you for your continued support over the school year; it is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, School Council & Mrs Donohoe
