Dear Parents, Carers and Governors,

Welcome back to the new school year. Thank you for sending your children to school healthy, looking lovely and eager to learn in their cheery school uniforms.

We have reviewed site security over the summer holidays and, with advice, have closed the driveway into school at the mobile classroom entrance. During half term in October we hope to have a side gate fitted to allow easier access to the site from the Tesco side, but please bear with us until this work has been concluded.

I must say a huge thank you to Mr Ribeiro and his team of parent helpers for all their hard work in tidying up the outdoor sites in school and also Mr Robinson for assisting over the weekend of 24th September.

With the weather as unpredictable as usual in Autumn, please name your children’s wellies and ask them to use the pegs provided to keep the cloakrooms as tidy as possible. On that note, how lovely to see all the 20th anniversary PE bags hanging up in neat rows, well done.

Mrs Maureen Thompson

Headteacher

General Housekeeping

As a reminder, we would like to point out a few general housekeeping rules.

When dropping off / picking up your children from school, could you please observe the following points that will help to keep our school site clean, tidy and safe …

  • No scooters or bikes to be ridden within the school site
  • Please don’t allow children or siblings to play on the Trim Trail as our school insurance will not cover any accidents that happen outside of school hours
  • If you are a smoker, please don’t dispose of cigarette ends at the school gates
  • Dogs must not be allowed on the school premises, this includes the school field and playgrounds
  • Please do not bring prams or buggies into the cloakrooms, these areas become very crowded and it presents a significant hazard if entrances are blocked
  • In order to start the day promptly and promote independence at the beginning of the day, we would appreciate it if you could say goodbye to your child at the classroom door or outside the cloakroom

NB. We are aware that there are times when you would like to speak to your child’s class teacher. Appointments after school, via a note to your child’s class teacher or the school office can be made to promptly resolve any questions or concerns. Thank you.

Child Safety

We would like to signpost you to advice given by the NSPCC with regards to the Pokemon-Go craze.

Please also see the school website for the latest advice from Thames Valley Police regarding an incident in Oxford, which has been widely reported by local news.

The Scholastic Book Fair

The Book Fair will be with us from Wednesday 12th October to Tuesday 18th October. It will be open before school at 8.40 – 9.00 and after school from 3.30 – 4.00 every day. The school receives commission for all the books we sell and the more we sell the bigger commission we make. Please come and enjoy, there will be some great ideas for Christmas presents.

If you able to offer any of your time to help run the Book Fair, please pop and see Mrs Tomlin in Reception. Thank you.

Operation Christmas Child

This year the School Council have decided that it would be nice if Langford Village took part in Operation Christmas Child. This is where shoe boxes are filled with small gifts and essentials, for less fortunate children in other countries, to receive at Christmas time.

Letter and leaflet will follow soon.

Children in Need

Langford Village will be partaking in a “Spotacular” fund raising event, for Children in Need on Friday 18th November. We would like the children to wear as many spots as possible.

Many thanks, School Council
